

MoraBanc Andorra made its third straight appearance in the 7DAYS EuroCup Top 16 last season as it continued to establish itself as a rising power in the competition. Even though Andorra is a small country, it has great pride in its signature basketball team. MoraBanc Andorra La Vella was founded in 1970 as Club de Baloncesto Les Escaldes, but in just one year, it became Basquet Club Andorra, its official name for more than four decades.

The club started playing in Spanish regional leagues and reached national-level competitions in 1984. In the 1985-86 season, Andorra won the Spanish third-division title and finally broke through to the first in 1992, led by Sergi Lopez, Josep Maria Margall and Ray Smith. A 73-71 win over Caceres on April 14, 1992, gave Andorra the Spanish second-division title.

Once in the top flight, the team, called Festina Andorra at that time, placed 12th in its debut season and lost in the eighthfinals of the playoffs to Caja San Fernando. Andorra went on to have a fantastic 1993-94 season, finishing fourth at the end of the regular season with an 18-10 record. Ultimately, Orense swept Andorra in the eighthfinals. In 1994-95, Andorra qualified for the Copa del Rey for the first time and lost in the quarterfinals against Estudiantes. The team also reached the playoffs as the eighth-ranked team, but was felled by FC Barcelona. That result allowed Andorra to make its debut in European competitions in the 1995-96 Korac Cup. But that season the team did not advance past the regular season, fell back to the Spanish second division and financial issues forced Andorra to start all the way from the bottom, in the third regional division.

By 2009, the team had been promoted enough times to reach the Spanish third division. It went one level up in 2012 and returned to the top Spanish League in 2014, where it has stayed ever since. After a couple of 14th-place finishes, Andorra took a big step forward in 2016-17 when Giorgi Shermadini, Beqa Burjanadze and Andrew Albicy led Andorra to the Copa del Rey tournament and the Spanish League playoffs. Andorra lost against Real Madrid by a narrow margin in both competitions.

Andorra debuted in the EuroCup in 2017-18. The following season, it started making noise. Albicy and Dylan Ennis were named to the All-EuroCup teams and the club downed LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne without home-court advantage in the first playoff round to reach the semifinals. ALBA Berlin stood in its way to success, but MoraBanc had made history. Andorra reached the Copa del Rey semifinals for the first time in 2020. The club will once again go into the season with high ambitions and looking for EuroCup success.

Buducnost VOLI Podgorica enters the 2021-22 7DAYS EuroCup for its 15th appearance in the competition. The Montenegrin champs come off an appearance in the EuroCup Quarterfinals though, despite winning the opening game of the series and having home-court advantage, they lost the next two duels to eventual champion, AS Monaco.

Founded in 1949, it took four decades for Buducnost to cement its place in the first division of the Yugoslav League. By the end of the century, however, it was the team to beat. After Yugoslav Cup titles in 1996 and 1998, Dejan Tomasevic, Milenko Topic and Vlado Scepanovic helped Buducnost to a record-setting domestic winning streak of 51 games and three straight Yugoslav League titles from 1999 through 2001. Another Cup triumph made for a trophy double in 2001 and Buducnost proved to be a force in the 2000-01 EuroLeague by reaching the playoffs.

The club returned to the EuroLeague for the next two years, but failed to reach the Top 16. A quieter period followed before Buducnost became the face of the newborn Montenegrin League. The club won 11 consecutive titles starting from the inaugural 2006-07 campaign, while also leaving its mark in the EuroCup. Buducnost reached the EuroCup Quarterfinals in 2012 and 2013, but was ousted by Valencia Basket and eventual champ Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar, respectively.

At home, Buducnost won the Montenegrin League and Cup double every years from 2007 to 2012. In 2014-15, the team lost a decisive fifth game of the Adriatic League semifinals against Cedevita Zagreb. Meanwhile, in Montenegro, the club continued to dominate. Buducnost captured its third and fourth consecutive trophy doubles by beating Mornar Bar in both finals in back-to-back seasons. Buducnost experienced a bittersweet 2017-18 season; it won its first Adriatic League title, but also saw its run of Montenegrin League titles snapped. The following campaign, Buducnost was back in the EuroLeague and had a 6-24 record as one of its main players, Goga Bitadze, was chosen as the competition's Rising Star.

The 2019-20 season saw Buducnost return to collecting trophies as it knocked off Mornar to claim its seventh straight Montenegrin Cup crown. Last season, the team reached the EuroCup Quarterfinals where it was eliminated by eventual champ AS Monaco. Now, the Montenegrin powerhouse will look to improve its results from last season and make history by reaching the EuroCup Semifinals for the first time.

After five teams got their training camps started a week ago, five more 7DAYS EuroCup sides got in the action in the last few days, holding their initial practices of the new season.

Lietkabelis Panevezys hit the floor running on Thursday, with all 12 players available for head coach Nenad Canak. A day later, EuroCup newcomers Hamburg Towers held their first practice, with head coach Pedro Calles ending almost a three-month long summer break for the team from northern Germany.

"It will take eight weeks to see where the journey is headed", Calles said." The first thing to do now is to get to know each other properly and to learn and understand the basics and principles of our work."

Four-time EuroCup champion Valencia Basker, as well as a pair of Adriatic League teams officially opened training camps on Monday.

Valencia got its full squad together and had a double-session. In the morning hours, the team was divided into two groups working out in the gym and had a track session. In the afternoon, coach JOean Penarroya had a team for its first joint basketball practice at Le Fonteta.

Buducnost VOLI Podgorica held their first practice at Moraca Arena, where Montenegrin powerhouse and last year's quarterfinalist aims to get ready for another long run in the competition.

Coach Zeljko Obradovic has been working with younger part of his troops at Partizan NIS Belgrade since last week, but it was on Monday that the team from the Serbian capital held its first official practice. Partizan heads to the Serbian mountain of Zlatibor on Tuesday, where it will spend nearly two weeks. Partizan is scheduled to play its first preseason game on September 1.

Several other EuroCup teams have started with medical test, and will be hitting the floors for practices this week.

More 7DAYS EuroCup sides, including Partizan NIS Belgrade and Buducnost VOLI Podgorica, got in the action in the last few days, holding their initial practices of the new season.

Perez (2.02 meters, 25 years old) averaged 9.7 points, 5.9 rebounds and 0.9 steals in seven 7DAYS EuroCup games last season, his second in the competition. He joined Andorra from Real Canoe, a team which he led from Spain's third to second division two seasons ago with a 29-point, 16-rebound performance in Game 5 of the finals. In the 2018-19 campaign, his first in the second division, he averaged 16 points and 10.6 rebounds over 26 games and was named MVP of the competition despite his team finishing in 15th place out of 18 teams. Perez and Andorra in July 2020 penned a contract extension until the end of the 2022-23 season.

Hunter (2.03 meters, 27 years old) comes to Metropolitans after starring last season for Virtus Segafredo Bologna and originally signing a contract extension with the club last month. Virtus, however, shortly thereafter terminated the contract with Hunter, who was honored as the 7DAYS EuroCup Top 16 MVP, and selected to the All-EuroCup Second Team last season. Hunter posted 9.8 points on 62.9% two-point shooting over the course of the last season, and finished it as Virtus' leading rebounder with 4.6 boards per game, and also averaged 1.4 assists and 1.1 steals. In the Italian League, he averaged 8.6 points and 4.2 rebounds, helping Virtus sweep its way to the league crown. Hunter began his professional career with Reno in the G-League. He played briefly for Panathinaikos OPAP Athens, where he made his Turkish Airlines EuroLeague debut in 2016. Hunter has also played for Avtodor Saratov in Russia, Memphis in the NBA and Memphis's G-League affiliate in the same city. He also played for AEK Athens in Greece, team he helped win the Basketball Champions League crown in 2018.

Stone (2.03 meters, 29 years old) made his 7DAYS EuroCup debut last season with Nanterre 92. He averaged 12.8 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 16 EuroCup appearances with Nanterre. The veteran big man has also played for Denizli Basket in Turkey, AGO Rethymno Aegean in Greece, Chiba and Shimane Susanoo Magic in Japan, Galil Gilboa in Israel, Enisey Krasnoyarsk in Russia, Pirates de Quebradillas in Puerto Rico and Brindisi and Cantu in Italy.

Dolomiti Energia Trento announced on Friday the signing of shooting guard Wesley Saunders for the coming season

Saunders (1.96 meters, 28 years old) remains in Italy after finishing last season with Fortitudo Bologna. He averaged 13.3 points and 3.9 rebounds in 14 games with Fortitudo. Saunders started the 2020-21 season with AS Monaco an d appeared in four games in the 7DAYS EuroCup before they parted ways. Saunders played two seasons in Italy with Vanoli Basket Cremona from 2018 to 2020. He also played college basketball at Harvard University and for Westchester, Austin and Windy City on the D-League. Saunders's first stop in Europe was with Kataja of Finland.

Dolomiti Energia Trento announced on Friday the signing of shooting guard Wesley Saunders for the coming season.



The winningest team in the history of the 7DAYS EuroCup, Valencia Basket is back, which generally is bad news for the rest of the teams. Valencia has lifted the trophy four times, including in the EuroCup's inaugural season in 2003. Strong rosters, a great fan base, committed front office and sound business structure have turned Valencia into a continental power.

Founded in 1986, Valencia reached the top Spanish League in 1988, but did not stick for good until 1996. Two years later Valencia claimed its first trophy, the Copa del Rey, by downing DKV Joventut Badalona in epic fashion. Soon the then-named Pamesa Valencia became a regular in the Spanish playoffs. In Europe, Valencia reached the Saporta Cup final twice, but lost in 1999 to Benetton Treviso and in 2002 to Montepaschi Siena. Everything changed for Valencia in the 2002-03 season. First came the EuroCup title as it swept Krka Novo Mesto in the finals led by Finals MVP Dejan Tomasevic, Nacho Rodilla and Fabricio Oberto. Valencia then climbed to the Spanish League finals before losing to Barcelona. In its debut EuroLeague season in 2003-04, Valencia reached the Top 16 and came within one win of the Final Four.

Valencia had plenty of success in the EuroCup, but didn't capture the trophy again until 2010 when the then-named Power Electronics Valencia bested ALBA Berlin in the championship game in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain. A year later, Valencia went all the way to the EuroLeague Playoffs before losing to Real Madrid. Valencia made it to another EuroCup final in 2012, but fell to Khimki Moscow Region. It returned to the EuroCup Finals in 2014 and left no doubts by sweeping UNICS Kazan behind an outstanding Justin Doellman. Valencia reached three finals in 2017: it lost against Real in the Copa del Rey final and against Unicaja Malaga in the EuroCup Finals, but claimed its first Spanish League title by defeating Real in the finals with Bojan Dubljevic taking MVP honors.

After playing the 2017-18 EuroLeague, Valencia came back to the EuroCup and promptly won the competition for the fourth time. Valencia won 16 of its final 17 games and bested ALBA in the finals to reclaim a EuroLeague spot. Will Thomas was chosen as the EuroCup Finals MVP while Dubljevic and Sam Van Rosson earned All-EuroCup honors. Valencia comes off consecutive EuroLeague campaigns for the first time ever and missed the playoffs last season despite a 19-15 record. It also reached the Spanish League semifinals for the seventh time in the last eight seasons. Now back in the EuroCup, Valencia is instantly among the favorites to win the competition and will be a force to be reckoned with.

Dolomiti Energia Trento is back for its sixth 7DAYS EuroCup appearance and fifth straight since 2017-18. Aquila Basket Trento was founded in 1995 and the initiative of Gianni Brusinelli and Marco Angelini slowly gained momentum. The club began in the seventh tier of Italian basketball and the arrival of Giovanni Zobele - who would stay with the team for 13 years - as team president brought its first promotion to a higher level. But that was only the start of things to come.

Over the next five seasons, the club climbed two more tiers and in the 2004-05 season, Aquila Basket won a lower league by taking the fifth division championship. Trento's appetite grew as it came close to promotion again before it acquired Lumezzane Basket's license to get into the Italian third division in 2009. By 2011-12, Aquila Basket was already on top of the third division. Trento had immediate success in the second-best Italian level and lifted the Second Division Cup by downing Pistoia in the final. The team also reached the playoff semifinals. By the next season, Trento won the regular season and stormed through the playoffs against Agrigento, Turin and Capo d'Orlando to earn promotion into the Italian first division.

Trento played its first top-flight season in 2014-15 and finished fourth in the Italian League regular season led by league MVP Tony Mitchell, which earned it a spot in the 2015-16 EuroCup. Behind Coach Buscaglia and forwards Julian Wright and Davide Pascolo, Trento went on a historic run to the semifinals against all odds. In 2017-18, Trento reached the EuroCup Top 16 and the Italian League finals. Trento was back in the Top 16 in 2019-20 and again last season.

This season will see Lele Molin start the campaign as head coach. His new approach after a few seasons as an assistant with the team will try to push the envelope a little further for Trento, as it will try to repeat its results from its debut season in the competition.
